Find Out The Truth

Posted on Sun Sep 17, 2017 @ 11:48pm by Captain Evelynn Haught & Captain James Thompson

Mission: Vivere aut non vivere ...
Location: USS Lantau and Iota Station

The USS Lantau exited Slip-stream just near the outer edge of the Iota system. The Iota station was just coming into sensor range when Captain Evelynn Haught stood up from her Captain's chair and stared at the viewscreen.

"Open a channel to Iota station." said the Captain to the night shift Tactical Officer.

A daper young human Ensign acknowledged the order and opened the channel. He gave the captain a nod when everything was ready.

"Iota Station, this is Captain Evelynn Haught of the USS Lantau. We have just been assigned here to Task Force 37 and would like clearance to enter the system." she waited for a reply which she knew it wouldn't take long.

"This is Iota Command. You are cleared to enter system. What is the status of your current armament and general supply levels?" the ops Officer requested as she sent a message to the facilities CO that the Lantau had arrived.

She nodded to the helm Officer giving the go ahead order to proceed under impulse. "Full complement of photon and quantum torpedoes. We were resupplied back in the Alpha Quadrant before our transition to the Delta Quadrant." Evelynn said.

"Excellent," came the reply in a tone suggesting this was an all too regular conversation. "Captain Thompson needs to speak with you urgently and is requesting permission to beam aboard in about fifteen."

"I'll be waiting for him in my ready room." turning to the crewman at Tactical. "Escort Captain Thompson to my ready room when he arrives."

The Vulcan female nodded. "Yes ma'am."

"Acknowledged Lantau. Iota Command out," the voice finished. Thompson who had been standing by quickly set off towards the nearby transporter bay at the command facility with a padd of data in his hand. CiC had been on edge all day and there was a slight mellowing as he left, his frustration clearly having been noticed by the command crew. Arriving he said little to the transporter chief before beaming aboard.

[USS Lantau Transporter room]

The main transporter hummed to life as the transporter Chief beamed the Captain over.

Standing off to the side the Vulcan Security Officer walked up to the platform and came to attention. "Welcome aboard the Lantau Captain. Captain Haught has asked me to escort you to her ready room. If you will follow me sir." the Vulcan turn towards the doors and proceeded to exit the transporter room.

"Of course," John replied following quickly behind. Not long later they arrived at the ready room and after a brief debate of whether to walk on in or buzz Thompson decided a few moments to catch his breath after the day he had had wouldn't go amiss. Pressing the buzzer he waited.

"Come in." said Evelynn Haught as soon as she heard the door chime. The Vulcan security officer entered along with another Captain in tow. "Captain Haught, may I present Captain Thompson."

"Thank you crewman. Your dismissed." watching the Vulcan leave Evelynn turned her full attention to the man before her. "Captain Thompson. It's a pleasure to meet you." she said as she extended her hand.

"Likewise Captain," John replied taking her hand. "I wish this was under better circumstances, something I seem to be saying a lot recently mind you. Mind if I get a coffee?"

"Help yourself." she had already gotten herself a drink earlier.

Walking to the replicator he ordered a black coffee in a carry flask and walked towards the seat at the desk. "Normally I'd let you get used to the base and talk through the information command will have given you in advance. But this one needs somebody on it and quickly."

"The Lantau is at your leisure Captain. What's going on?" now Evelynn was curious.

He handed over the padd he had been nursing up to this point. "We've been scouting this area of space since we got here. Due to the lack of anything it's been dubbed the 'Dead Zone', not very original I admit but you get the idea." Drinking some coffee he continued, "A few days ago we sent in the Nova class USS Clip to see if she could find anything and received a transmission. It's on the padd if you wouldn't mind playing it."

Evelynn took the padd and activated it. There was a garbled transmission on it. Clip...W..ve...con...Borg. Re...ip...enc.." the transmission ended. Evelynn's skin crawled. "Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" she asked.

Thompson nodded slowly. "Seems like it. We've tried to reach them but we've had no response and they were out of long range sensor range so of course we are blind on this one. We need somebody to go look for them and evaluate the threat if any."

"The Lantau is at your disposal. You just give the word and we'll investigate for you." Evelynn had a gut feeling that Captain Thompson was going to give the order.

"Search and rescue is the priority but obviously any intelligence you can get get it. Bring our people home and we can investigate properly," The Task Force CO instructed. "Good luck Captain."

"Thank you Captain." Evelynn wondered what she got herself and the crew into.
